Srila Prabhupada the founder and acharya of the world wide Hare Krishna movement wanted to reach the sublime teachings of Lord Krishna coming in the line of disciplic succession or Parampara to one and all. With this sole purpose in mind he setup the Hare Krishna Movement. During his manifest presence he personally oversaw the growth of the movement and established a confederation of over hundred centres. He wanted that these centres run autonomously garnering the local support for its initiatives. He wanted that the leaders of various centres to innovatively develop strategies for spreading Krishna consciousness to the modern society keeping the message pure and as it is. He also established a Governing Body Commission( GBC) which spiritually guided the various centres established world over. The functioning of the Governing Body Commission was particularly outlined by him when Srila Prabhupada setup the GBC for the first time in 1970. He succinctly explained GBC’s purpose and goal in the Direction of Management(DOM) directive. Subsequently through his instructions to the GBC and other leaders Srila Prabhupada gave the broad framework on how the centres function and expand the initiatives of the Hare Krishna Movement. In the DOM Srila Prabhupada had specifically instructed that the GBC be formed through elections from the Temple Presidents Body- which largely consisted of senior leaders from across all centres. In this website we present to the netizens confederation of Srila Prabhupada’s Hare Krishna Movements’ independent centres and its GBC, its policies and very key activities. Further detailed activities can be known from the respective centres’ websites.
Post the physical departure of Srila Prabhupada in 1977, the world-wide Hare Krishna movement was taken over by a self-made gurus and acaryas and the direction of management was ignored in totality. These self-made gurus were over ambitious American disciples who were wanting to be gurus on their own right without proper authorization by Srila Prabhupada. The revealed scriptures state that one cannot become a guru or acarya without the authorization of the predecessor spiritual master. In direct contravention to this rule these self-made gurus declared themselves as the next acaryas of ISKCON after Srila Prabhupada and regimented worship for themselves within the sacred movement of Srila Prabhupada. This had disastrous effect on the pure and sublime movement. It virtually split the movement into splinters and due to the bad conduct of these so-called acaryas brought great disrepute to the wonderful organization founded by Srila Prabhupada.
There was widespread opposition to the Acarya system as introduced by the deviant self-made gurus in within the movement. Dissenting voices were dealt with iron hand the movement was stripped of its very senior leaders as they were kicked out of the movement. In the 90s coupled with the growth of internet the deviations of these self-made ISKCON gurus was exposed inspite of their tyrannical attempts to ban any literature which was exposing them. Around 1999 the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore and Kolkata opposed the self-made gurus of ISKCON and launched a movement within a movement. In due course this opposition to the corrupt guru system has grown and become the real movement within the movement. In just over a decade and half since this struggle began at the beginning of the millennium many Hare Krishna movement centres have been established by the followers of Srila Prabhupada and an attempt has been made to re-establish Srila Prabhupada’s Hare Krishna Movement in it pure original form. This group of devotees have been identified as such as Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON Bangalore Group or more popularly as the Srila Prabhupada’s Hare Krishna Movement. Broadly to indicate confederation of independently administered Hare Krishna centres which accept Srila Prabhupada as the only sole diksha guru or acarya of the movement. The devotees also accept that the instructions of Srila Prabhupada as their life and soul and strive to follow them in letter and spirit. The devotees have also formed the Governing Body Commission(GBC) for their movement within the movement and are implementing the Direction of Management(DOM) as instructed by Srila Prabhupada.
